• Construction duration: The on-site construction took 5 months (after pre-planning). The owners, Seth and Emily Britt, completed the build from container placement to finish in this period.
• Renovation process (core steps):
1. Container selection & layout: Used two 40-foot and one 20-foot shipping containers, arranged with a cantilever design to fit the cliffside terrain in Hocking Hills, Ohio.
2. Structural prep: Had structural engineering to raise ceilings for insulation compliance; welded containers firmly, used a plasma cutter for wall openings (with engineer approval).
3. Cutting & opening: Cut openings for windows, doors, and internal connections; reinforced cut edges to maintain steel structure integrity.
4. Insulation & weatherproofing: Installed roof insulation to meet local codes; added siding and a living roof (foraged moss/ferns) for weather protection and integration with nature.
5. Interior build: Set up a full kitchen, 2 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, a spiral staircase, and a deck with a hot tub and chiminea; finished with colorful, whimsical decor.
6. Utilities installation: Connected electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems; ensured compliance with local building codes
